The Vietnam War
The Vietnam War was a Cold-War Era war fought from December 1956 to April 1975. Some key figures of the War were: Dwight D Eisenhower, Nikita Khrushchev, John F Kennedy, Leonid Brezhnev, and Robert McNamara. This war had a huge cost to the U.S, resulting in about 58,200 deaths and 303,644 wounded. The reason why the U.S wanted to get involved was to try to rid the world of communism. North Vietnam and South Vietnam had opposing ideas about how their governments should be controlled. North Vietnam was communist and South Vietnam was anti-communist. So, since the U.S thought that if North Vietnam were to turn South Vietnam communist, then countries around South Vietnam would follow the suit of change to communism. This idea is called the U.S Domino Theory. This war lasted 19 years. During the war, people started anti-Vietnam War rallies to expedite the end of the war. These tactics were not very successful. If only we would have thought about the risks involved, then maybe a bit more troops would have returned home. One more note, Communists won and the U.S and it's allies lost. Vietnam then became the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
