The Space Race
The Space Race was a 20th century Cold-War Era competition between the U.S and the U.S.S.R. Key people of this competition were: Yuri Gagarin, Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, Sergei Korolev, and Wernher von Braun. This was a competition to see who had the power to get to space first. The U.S.S.R were the first people in space, to successfully launch a rocket, and have an animal in space. However, the U.S were the first to land on the moon, and have the longest space flight, which was about 13 days and 18 hours. So, the Cold War rivals both had gained some knowledge about space. After the Space Race, there was a huge boost in education and research that was all thanks to the Space Race. The Space Shuttle Program and NASA were formed, and the Russians made their Space Station. The Space Race was truly a turning point for many things, especially technology and knowledge about space.
